Man Vs Food at Smoke BBQ Sheffield 18

This is a user submitted challenge, thanks Nick.

A Sheffield based restaurant is inviting customers to take the ultimate challenge through a Man vs Food style eating competition.

Smoke Barbecue is challenging diners tackle the four beef patties, pulled pork, brisket, cheese and onion strings in a burger bun with a 500g of fries, slaw, cornbread muffin and a two pint milk shake in 15 minutes 30 minutes* or less.

The £25 plentiful platter needs to be eaten faster than the house record with the reigning champion eating for free and taking home a £100 voucher and a photograph on the “wall of fame”. Those who manage to finish the platter in 30 minutes or less get to eat for half price.

Since opening its doors in December Smoke Barbeque has been fully booked every weekend with customers praising the unique experience and authentic BBQ food.

Before opening Smoke, founders Sean Gregory and Duka Nagy travelled to Texas to experience barbeque in its truest form following inspiration from an episode of the iconic TV series Man vs Food. The series follows former chef Adam Richman across America in his search for the biggest and toughest food challenges, often involving the consumption of large quantities of food.

Sean said: “Food challenges are a dime a dozen in America and the trend is creeping into the UK. Our Man vs Food challenge is a fun way to experience an eating challenge and, if you beat the clock, the kudos of getting your picture on the “wall of fame” will cement you in Smoke history!”

I am bit skeptical about whether its possible to eat all that in 15 minutes. I think I’ll let a few other people try first. Its a lot of food and 2 pints of milkshake is a lot. 30 minutes more realistic I think. You can’t really enjoy the food if you have to ram in down in 15 minutes. *

Here are the details if you want to try.

* Update. I saw on twitter that the 15 minutes is actually a mistake and its really 30 minutes.

That actually sounds pretty reasonable now. Probably will nip down one day and try it out.

Can’t believe in this current climate (a country whom is almost on parr with the USA in terms of obesity) Would encourage such stupid behavior!! This is totally irresponsible. Maybe u should have thought of a more intelligent way to market your business!

Maybe you should think of a more intelligent response Charlotte. This is a fantastic way to market a burger business. You’re stupid if you think one large burger is the cause of an obesity epidemic. Maybe we should protect everyone from temptation by banning all food, alcohol or sugary drink related marketing. Yep, that should do the trick.

I’m heading to Sheffield to accept this challenge!

    PS. I’m not obese… yet.

This is an excellent challenge and I for one shall be accepting it not to race against the clock to simple enjoy the meal and I love milkshakes so the two pints shall be a treat however some chocolate pudding or something wouldn’t go a miss to make it a full course meal for £25 🙂

Charlotte people still like food this looks tp be good food im fed up of hearing the world is ending due to no power conservation people are dieing cause now we are all too fat change the record i think what they are doing is great at any point does it say that these people are being forced to eat that much no it is an option something people are losing out on alot these recent years or would you prefer to heard the overweight people in society to a farm and make them lose weight so people like you would find them socialy acceptable again i was raised to accept a person for who they are not what size trousers they can fit in rock on smoke house and anyone who wishes to dine there

Charlotte Barlow get off your high horse!

Ever heard of freedom of choice.

Obesity is caused by constant over eating and lack of exercise. Why shouldn’t someone who manages their weight and does plenty of exercise give this a crack.

The restaurant isn’t forcing anyone to come and eat it’s the individual’s choice. Much as being overweight is.

Yes I can see the huge amount of calories in one sitting and fat, carbs, cholesterol etc but it’s all about balance.

Are you telling me this didn’t make you hungry when you saw it? If not maybe your just an angry vegetarian.

Works for me. I’ll be down!

I have to agree with Charlotte, I think promoting overrating is a massive mistake. I actually nearly booked a table at smoke but decided not to as all the chips are fried twice! I like fried food, and I have a belly to prove it. But frying chips twice is too much for me and put me off.

I’m sure it’s designed as a culinary one-off Charlotte!! Not an example of how to eat every day. My husband and I are very healthy eaters with a normal weight and are excited about a visit to this new place. Take it for what it is and don’t be sooo serious! That said, we won’t be taking them up on the challenge, will just have a normal sized meal. People are intelligent enough to choose what they do/eat.

Charlotte Barlow has a very large stick up her a*se!
Can’t wait to try it! Been waiting for something like this in Sheffield!! 😀

More intelligent, or more responsible? Because if they’re full every weekend, they seem to be marketing successfully at least.
Anyway, you don’t become obese by attempting to eat a huge plate of food. This is a one off bit of fun. It’s not independent vendors of quality food like this one that cause people to be fat, it’s cheap, poor quality rubbish spewed out from the likes of mac dougles and friends.
In short, while you mean well, I think your anger is misplaced. Give these chaps a break and wish them the best of luck.

I want to smother my co-workers in beef grease. Then lick them especially Andrew Swan.

This restraunt looks like a shit version of reds bbq we have in Leeds .. !! Quality of food here looks poor and a 4/10 for food presentation.looks a challenge even eating one of them sloppy sweaty chewy burgers !! Good luck Charlotte aswel with challenge you fat bitch !! , sit down chew a chewy burger and shut the fuck up !!! I often find with these type of challenges the burgers are tasteless and they put as many topping on top as you can to compensate the lack of quality and taste .. Enjoy
