Kua ‘Aina Burger Challenge 5

So, this challenge wrapped up my 3 day weekend of challenges before I set off on a diet. I know…only 3 compared to the tour Randy Santell did before his…but hey, I digress. For some reason this challenge has not come up on most lists and I stumbled upon it by accident, so I hope this shout out gives it some more interest since it’s a great one!

Back to the challenge! This beauty competes with the Bao Burger for the most unique burger challenge I have done. It consists of:

X1 Da Big Kahuna Burger, a multi patty burger with bacon, an egg, avocado, pineapple, veg and cheese

X1 large skin on fries

X1 milkshake (flavour of your choice)

You have 15 minutes to complete (17 if you wear a Hawaiian shirt).

I remembered to take a picture this time! 3rd time lucky for this weekend I guess

Nothing new with my approach to this one, I took the burger apart and did the patties first, before assembling a single patty burger for the end. Sounds simple, but there were so many different fillings that it was a bit of a struggle with this tactic as bits and pieces seemed to fall all over the place. Still, no way I would have been able to eat it as a single burger, so it seemed a good compromise. One unusual tactic I used was for some bites using the milkshake instead of water. I found it added a great flavour to the mix (not that anything was wrong with the taste of the burger, I just like to mix things up). Overall, all the different ingredients went really well with this one to make one hell of a tasty treat. As in a previous challenge, the hardest part was probably the patty with the bacon on it since it was quite hard so made biting through it quickly difficult.

For the chips, I thought I would try the technique where you scrunch them up into a ball. There were not that many, and it seemed to work well this time. Decent chips. Nothing special, but could not complain either. I liked the seasoning. Made easy work of them.

My milkshake of choice was peanut butter. Oh man, it was great. Really rich flavour. It was surprisingly drinkable, in the sense that it was not too thick, so I could use it to help get the rest of the food down. It was not an overly large serving. If I was not trying to beat a time I kind of wish there was more of it, but hey, maybe during a regular visit.

In the end, it took me around 6 minutes to complete. I do not know the exact time since I had a struggle stopping my timer, but even then it said 6.20, so I managed to beat the record at Goodge Street. The overall record is in the Belfast branch and was set by *drum roll* Michelle “Cardboard Shell” Lesco (a professional MLE eater, and one of the world’s best), so…no chance of me touching that time. Talking to the manager, he mentioned she used classic competitive tactics as pouring water onto the food. Whilst I’m sure that can help set a record, you guys would be surprised to know I actually want to enjoy these challenges (yes, even going fast I can still enjoy the food), so that tactic is a step too far for me unless I thought I wouldn’t make it without doing so.

Definitely check this one out. The time limit of 15 minutes is not so bad, and its not the greatest quantity of food. This place and challenge needs more love! If you do go, let me know how you got on in the comments below.

Very nicely done! Didn’t expect you to do it that fast but hell yeah!

Take the egg and avocado off and I might have given this one a go!

    Good luck on the diet!
