Its been a while since I attempted any serious food challenges. There aren’t many left that are in Sheffield. I am having to go further afield now. Last weekend I was down in London.
I decided I’d have a pop at the pork knuckle challenge. That didn’t go down well. The amount of chips is a lot more than it looks on the picture. That in itself isn’t a problem, the main problem was, sauerkraut is nasty and pork knuckles are definitely an acquired taste. There’s too much fat on them and the rules state you have to eat the skin. No chance for me. I gave up shortly after starting it.
The beer was very nice though and I managed to drink all that easily 🙂 More information about the knuckle challenge here.
As I gave up without eating very much, I decided to have another go at another challenge. As it happens, there was another challenge just down the road.
Beat the Meat Challenge
This consists of
- 5 beef burgers
- 5 bacon rashes
- 1 chicken breast
- 4 hash browns
- 5 cheese slices
- onion rings
- hot sauce
Eat the lot in an hour and its free. At the time of writing, no one has completed the challenge.
I was actually pretty confident about this one. The amount of chips wasn’t ridiculous.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t on top form and the burger defeated me. The jalapenos and hot sauce weren’t nice. I could have possibly continued on and completed it, after all 1 hour is a long time, but it’d have been a Pyrrhic victory. That’s the problem with eating challenges – they ruin your night. Drinking the stein of beer at the Octoberfest bar didn’t help either.
No doubt someone will beat that challenge sooner or later. Quite a few failures on their facebook page. If you fancy it, here are the details.
